"Begin doing what you want to do now. We are not living in eternity."

— I saw this today, and I think it’s going to be my new go to quote until I start doing what I want to do with my life.

Top 10 Films of 2011

This year there have been so many great films, it’s really hard to pick my top ten. I meant to do this list last week, but my job got in the way and it’s a good thing it did because I actually saw one of the films on this list just last week. Here is my list:

10. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2

I had to put this film on my list, as the final film of one of my favorite franchises and because it was really well done. The filmmakers ended this franchise on a very high note.

9. The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

I was excited for this film, since I saw the teaser trailer. This film was crazy, but I really enjoyed it. I especially loved the original music in the film by Trent Reznor and both Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara, as well as the rest of the cast were excellent. The story was wonderful and since I hadn’t read the books, the whole story was a mystery to me and the entire film kept me guessing at who the murderer was.

8. Rise of the Planet of the Apes

Not only was this a really good action film but it had a very good story. Plus Andy Serkis did the motion capture for Caesar and he was awesome.

7. Attack the Block

I loved this film, I wish it would have gotten a wider release in the states, I don’t think it even came to my local theater.

6. Bridesmaids

I think this was one of the funniest films of the year. The ladies of this film were great, especially scene-stealer Melissa McCarthy.

5. The Muppets

As a kid I loved The Muppets. As an adult I love Jason Segel. Combine these two and I am one happy person. I loved the musical numbers in this film and all the cameos. I actually ended up even seeing this film twice in theaters because I liked it so much.

4. War Horse

I just saw this film a few days ago, and immediately fell in love with it. I was a wonderful and heartwarming story. I loved it so much that I can’t wait to see it again, I can’t stop thinking about this excellent film.

3. Super 8

J.J. Abrams is easily becoming one of my favorite directors. He has yet to make a film that I didn’t like. So imagine my excitement when he collaborated with my all-time favorite filmmaker, Steven Spielberg. How could this film not be amazing. In anything these two men, know how to make good Sci-fi films. I also really liked how watching this film reminded me of all the films from the 70’s and 80’s that I love, especially The Goonies and ET.

2. Midnight in Paris

I have always been a Woody Allen fan, and I think this film is now one of my favorites by him. I fell in love with Paris after watching this movie, and now I desperately want to go there, mainly to meet all my favorite authors from the 1920’s. Now I know that thats not going to happen, but a girl can dream. I, like the main character Gil have always felt like I should have lived during a different time period, which is why I think I relate to this film even more. I highly recommend that everyone see this film.

1. Drive

I don’t think I need to even explain why this film was number 1. Everything was great about this film, the actors, the story, the music. Ryan Gosling did a wonderful job in this film, and he did it without saying a lot. He barely had an dialogue but that made his character that more mysterious and interesting. Carey Mulligan was really good to, as was the rest of the cast. This film was easily my favorite of the year, and I can’t wait to see it again.

Honorable Mentions:

Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows

Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol (This was an awesome action film, it had a decent story and some of action sequences were insane.)

Jane Eyre

Films from 2011 that I still need to see:

Shame (I’m really excited to see this, I’m a huge fan of Michael Fassbender, so I’m positive this would have made my list had I seen it.)

The Adventures of Tintin

Margin Call

Hugo

Beginners

"Where do you think you’re going? Nobody’s leaving. Nobody’s walking out on this fun, old-fashioned family Christmas. No, no. We’re all in this together. This is a full-blown, four-alarm holiday emergency here. We’re gonna press on, and we’re gonna have the hap, hap, happiest Christmas since Bing Crosby tap-danced with Danny fucking Kaye. And when Santa squeezes his fat white ass down that chimney tonight, he’s gonna find the jolliest bunch of assholes this side of the nuthouse."

Laughing To Keep From Crying of the Day: On last night’s episode of The Soup, with the countdown to Communigeddon nearing zero hour, host Joel McHale finally said “screw it” and brought out all of his Community co-stars for one final (?) hurrah.

All co-stars except Chevy Chase, that is, because he’s just a figment of a Joel’s imagination. As is the rest of the cast. As is Community. As is your infinite sadness at the indefinite loss of one of the best shows ever produced for the medium of television.

Nope. That last one is definitely real.
